Gaining Ground: Bridging the Literacy Gap

Gaining Ground is a mobile library that serves disadvantaged children and youth in North Tulsa communities. Founded by Tulsa area educators, Gaining Ground gives away books to students during the summer, when these students are susceptible to the "summer slide." The "summer slide" describes the up to two months of progress lost by disadvantaged students during the summer that causes them to fall behind their grade's reading level.

The Ed Darby Foundation recognizes the great work that the teachers and volunteers at Gaining Ground are doing, and partner with them to maximize student's access to summer reading materials.
